Activities

Research has shown that the provision of activities can reduce depression and can also benefit residents physically. Rozelle’s activity programme is developed in such a way as to promote independence as much as possible. Previous hobbies are taken into consideration with special emphasis placed on social events and celebrations. The programme is very flexible and varies according to the needs of the residents. Rozelle offers a full range of activities which are suitable for all abilities, following guidance from Dementia Care Matters, the range of activities offer cognitive, sensory, physical, social and spiritual support vital to everyone with each activity delivered with care and compassion and having a meaning. A sample weekly plan is displayed in the Home; plans can vary from time to times according to the needs and wants of the residents including social events and birthdays.

During the warmer month’s residents are encouraged to enjoy the gardens with regular gardening groups. National Association for the Providers of Activities for older people (NAPA) research suggests that “individuals who do not normally participate in activities, were more motivated during outside activities”. Along with the various group activities there is one to one time which according to NAPA a very important activity as isolation can very easily happen.

All activities at Rozelle are person centered and are regularly evaluated, what works for one person may not work for another, and as every person is an individual.
